Neo Intelligence: Automating Payroll Rules Across Australia
Neo Intelligence, an Australian software provider for the construction industry, implemented Higson for centralized payroll logic and automated calculations without IT support.
About the client
Neo Intelligence is an Australian company specializing in developing software for construction firms. Their software assists in managing teams, projects, and finances. Neo Intelligence serves numerous companies across various states.
In 2023, Neo Intelligence approached us for help in developing and implementing an advanced business rules system designed to centralize data and simplify the input and modification of payroll rules.
Challenges Before Higson Implementation
- Regulatory Diversity
Each state in Australia has unique regulations regarding employee wages, benefits, and allowances. Additionally, within these states, each company has its own internal payroll rules. Managing these differences was complex and time-consuming.
- Time-Consuming Process
An additional challenge was the need to automate the payroll calculation process to save time and reduce the risk of errors. The variability of payroll categories and specific compensation requirements (such as different allowance and benefit systems) necessitated the creation of a flexible system that could be easily updated by business users..
- Lack of Centralization
The system needed to support various pricing structures, product metadata management, frontend configuration, and user privilege settings, all while ensuring rapid response times and scalability.
Solution
Neo Intelligence implemented Higson, which helps automate payroll processes, centralize data, and simplify the management of diverse rules. As a result, the company can effectively handle the various regulations in different states and companies.
How does it work?
1. An employee at Neo Intelligence creates a decision table that includes all the rules regarding payroll categories, taking into account specific payroll regulations for different Australian states and the types of contracts applicable in each region.
2. The created decision table is added to the client table, which specifies the Australian states and contract types to which these rules apply.
3. Higson automatically selects the appropriate decision table and the relevant rows containing payroll categories without any additional intervention from employees.
4. The engine calculates the correct values for these payroll categories, providing precise and compliant results that can be delivered to Neo Intelligence's clients.
