About the Client

Nationale Nederlanden is one of the leading insurers in Poland, offering a wide range of life and non-life products. The company continuously invests in modern technology to improve customer service, enhance operational efficiency, and respond quickly to market and regulatory changes.

Challenges

Managing complex and frequently changing insurance rules was time-consuming and required significant IT involvement. Key challenges included:

  • Long time-to-market for new products and updates.
  • Dependence on IT teams to implement business rule changes.
  • Limited transparency and control over decision logic.
  • Ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory requirements.

The Role of Higson

To overcome these challenges, Nationale Nederlanden implemented Higson, Decerto’s business rules engine. Higson became the central component for managing product configuration, decision logic, and regulatory compliance, giving business teams the autonomy to adjust rules without IT intervention.

Central Product Repository

All life insurance product configurations and metadata used across the entire architecture are maintained in one place, which communicated with other systems through an API.

Pricing Configuration

All life insurance product configurations and metadata used across the entire architecture are maintained in one place, which communicated with other systems through an API.

Printout Content Management System

All texts to be printed (such as policies and offers) can be edited in Higson, allowing for centralized management of printed content.

Data Dictionary Repository

Reference data (e.g., postal codes, countries) are kept in one place and reused across multiple systems, ensuring consistency and reducing redundancy.
